DNS Propagation Explainer

Use this DNS propagation explainer to better understand why DNS changes can appear uneven, how TTL affects updates, and what delays are normal after edits.

How propagation works
DNS changes do not update everywhere instantly because resolvers cache records for the length of the TTL.
Some visitors may reach the old record while others reach the new one until caches expire.
Lower TTL values can help shorten future update delays, but they do not always clear existing caches immediately.
Propagation timing depends on resolver behavior, local caching, ISP caching, and record type.
